How to DIY Ring ConesRing cones! Because, admit it, you too have had that panicky feeling when you realize you haven’t seen that ring in awhile….where the heck did it go? You can say goodbye to that lousy feeling with this simple DIY. I love scattering these ring cones in the bathroom, by the sink, and on my nightstand so no matter where I am, I can set my rings in a specific place.

WHAT YOU NEED

-wood ring cone (buy a single cone here, or a pack of 5 here)

-specialty paper (love this hand drawn floral pink paper)

mod podge glue

paint brush for glue

-scissors

-ruler

-pencil

-RING!

THE INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make a cone pattern on the back side of your speciality paper. Do this by making the radius the same height as your cone. It’s easy if you start with a dot in the center of your paper and draw a plus sign through the dot (with the length of each leg of the plus sign the same as the height of your cone). Then take your ruler and measure more points from the center dot equal to the radius/cone height. Slowly travel around the dot measuring with your ruler and you’ll have enough dots to connect to form a perfect circle.
  2. Cut out the circle.
  3. Cut out a section of your circle. Like a large piece of pie is has been eaten.
  4. Flip your paper over and overlap the two inside edges of the new eaten pie shape. You’ll see a cone shape will start to form the more you overlap these edges. The bigger the piece you remove from the circle, the more narrow a cone it will form. See below visual from www.had2know.com
  5. Test the paper around your cone to see what fits best. You’ll need to trim any excess. Be sure to leave some overlap so you don’t see any of the wood underneath. The Mod Podge will make the paper fabric-like, so don’t worry if it’s isn’t trimmed perfectly, the decoupage glue helps you smoosh it around the cone, especially the awkward part at the top.
  6. Once you’ve trimmed it to fit your cone well, flip paper over, lay flat, and using your brush, paint a layer of Mod Podge on the back of your paper.
  7. Swiftly place on the cone. You’ll have a good 15 seconds or so to move it into place before it settles.
  8. Let dry for an hour.

You probably are aware of how much I love to decoupage by now. The possibilities are endless, and it’s such a simple process that adds unique style to any basic object. I’m nothing without my (huge gallon of) Mod Podge.
