How to: Dinner Party Name Place Settings

I’m all ready for an upcoming weekend with my sisters and all our fellas. We love meeting up for a weekend to cook, eat, drink, laugh, catch up and basically lounge around the house. And what a good, fun thing–we just kicked dinner up a notch with these DIY name place settings!

I made these name place settings with the inspiration from Molly’s AlmostMakesPerfect’s DIY calligraphy place cards post (thanks for the inspiration, and ps. I love your renovation!).

Instead of calligraphing with a paint pen like Molly’s linked post suggests, I had my Silhouette Cameo in mind for this project from the start. (What can I say, I’m still loving my pantry labels and how easy it is to cut and stick beautiful handwritten font on essentially anything!) Once the acrylic rounds arrived, the whole project took me TEN MINUTES FLAT to do six name place settings. I kid you not. Quickest DIY in all of Sisoo history.

WHAT YOU NEED

-Silhouette Cameo cutting machine

-Vinyl with adhesive backing (I used black here, but check out the other colors too)

-Clear Acrylic Plexiglass 6″ disks (see other sizes found here and here)

-Transfer paper to transfer cut vinyl words to each disk

THE STEPS

1.) Select a font in photoshop & create a name file for each place setting.

2.) Import the files into the Silhouette software & load the cutting mat with black vinyl media, hit cut.

3.) Unload the media. Peel back the excess vinyl around each cut name to isolate the cut out. Use contact paper to transfer the vinyl onto each round plexi-glass.

If you don’t have a Silhouette, I strongly recommend investing in one for endless DIY possibilities! You can also check out AlmostMakesPerfect’s DIY calligraphy place cards post that shows you how to hand letter the names with a print out and paint pen–no Silhouette needed. Her post is equally as lovely and easy to DIY.

I’m looking forward to using these at my next dinner party with my sisters and our guys. They also would make for the perfect shower or wedding place setting–think gold foil vinyl to dress up the names for a more formal affair.

I’m keeping some blank acrylic disks on hand and will whip up whatever new names arrive to our dinner parties. Please remember to tag me in your creations! #sisooDIY

Now please pass the potatoes!

Both DIYs are beautiful!! With the cutter, yours looks cleaner and must be much quicker! A good investment for sure, but nice to know that there is a way around this if you don’t have a silhouette cutter 🙂 Gorgeous!
