I’ve got 9 easy steps to select your brand color palette today!
So you’re starting an online business. Or maybe you’re redesigning your existing website! Congratulations! It’s a lot of work, a lot of details, a lot of persistence and patience…but anything worthwhile *usually* requires effort!
I’ve launched a lot of websites in my day. (I’ve been earning a living online since 2008!!) I know that selecting your brand colors can feel overwhelming because with all those hues, shades, and tones, how does one decide?
Fear not, I’ve streamlined the process into 9 easy steps. The best part….my process takes action instead of dwelling in palette possibilities. And that’s why I use this process whenever I’m designing a new website or helping a client decide colors. The process is straightforward, it will get you results you feel confident in, and I daresay it’s quite fun. See my 9 easy steps to help you select your brand color palette below!
1. Take my quiz.
OK, I’m showing what a nerd I am for color now. Yes, I wrote a quiz! It’s under 10 questions and should take you less than 2 minutes. It’s the first step you need to take to get you pointed toward the general palette for your brand and business. Take the quiz by clicking here!
2. Sign into Pinterest.
You have a Pinterest account riiiiight?! (If not, sign up here.)
3. Create a color palette board.
You could name it {Your Brand Name}’s Color Palette. I suggest keeping it a secret board so that you can gather plenty of inspiration for your perfect palette before sharing it with your audience!
4. Follow me on Pinterest.
I’m frequently pinning color combinations (it’s one of my largest boards––I love color palettes!) so I may likely pin something that helps or inspires your palette. Click here to follow me.
5. Start with my color palette board.
Check out my color palette board here. Find your color palette section (based on your quiz results) and check out all the pins I’ve saved there to help inspire you. Pin everything that resonates with your brand to your board. Search for more color in art, graphics, textures, patterns, decor, and more!
6. Save 100 pins to your color palette board!
Take the next few days to keep searching Pinterest for color. Save photographs, graphics, recipes, art, anything, and everything that visually sparks joy! When you add pins in volume, you will start to see a pattern of colors emerge and your brand colors surface!
7. Grab your color codes.
Import your absolute favorite photos from your color palette board into Photoshop and use the eyedropper tool to find the color code numbers. (Or you could upload your photo to a tool like this.) I recommend selecting 6 brand colors!
8. Copy and save the color codes.
You’ve found your colors!! Now keep them somewhere safe!
