I’m really really reallllllly into salt baths. Ever since my knee injury, they’ve been my consistent little luxury. I take one just before bed, to help me unwind and to take the deep aching feeling that I often get in my right hip and quad while I’m still restrengthening my entire lower body. I used to be more of a bubble bath kinda gal, but salt soaks have shown better health and detoxing benefits. I like all types, but I’m especially hooked on Dead Sea salts–they are considered an ancient remedy. I’ve read the skin is considered the “third kidney” because of its ability to excrete (sweat) toxins. The cool part is while you’re sweating out bad stuff, you can absorb good stuff like minerals & nutrients from Dead Sea salts. I’ve been experimenting with different bath salt recipes and combining all sorts of scents and dried botanicals and herbs. This vanilla rose bath salt recipe is among my favorites. And it is seriously soooooo easy to make. (And side note, would be such a luxurious gift to give!)
WHAT YOU NEED
–Dead Sea salts (I like how luxurious the coarse grain looks! But fine grain dissolves faster in water.)
-Fragrance oil of your choosing (I used rose oil and vanilla oil–SO GOOD TOGETHER!)
–Mica powder colorant (Optional but adds a lot of beauty.)
–Dried rose buds (Or you could try this or this.)
-Large bowl
THE INSTRUCTIONS
- Measure out 1 lb of salts into a large bowl.
- Add 1 tsp of fragrance oil. (If you are combining more than one oil, divide properly. If your salts seem to oily, just add more salt to dilute the oil.
- Mix really thoroughly–I like to use my hands, but you could use a wooden spatula or whisk. Mix for 2 minutes continuously and really move the salts through the bowl.
- Add the tiniest amount of mica powder. A little goes a lonnnnnnng way. You don’t want your salts too dark because they will leave residue in the bath tub. Opt for a light pastel color.
- Mix the powder in the bowl similarly as you did in step 3. If it’s too dark, add more salt to dilute the colorant.
- Add any dried botanicals last. Mix thoroughly.
- Using your scooper, scoop the salt mixture into your jar. Store in an air tight container.
I love this DIY because it’s impossible to mess up. If something goes wrong, you can always add a little more of this or that to offset the mistake. And I love how limitless the possibilities are in combining different scents, colorants and botanicals. You might never take the same bath twice!
