Next time you wrap a gift, add this easy dip-dyed fabric ribbon. You only need a few supplies, and the results are original and beautiful.
EASY gift wrapping idea: DIP-DYED FABRIC RIBBON
What you need for this gift wrap idea
- Raw muslin ribbon
- Food coloring
- Several small bowls for dye
- Water
- Paper towels
THE STEPS TO MAKE DIP-DYED FABRIC RIBBON
1. Mix the food coloring with a bit of water in a small bowl. The more water you add, the lighter the color will be.
2. Douse the muslin ribbon in water, which will help the ribbon absorb the dye.
3. Place one end of the rolled-up ribbon in the food coloring. Let it sit in the bowl for about 10-20 seconds.
4. Remove from food coloring and let excess drain off. Flip over and let the other side of the rolled-up ribbon rest in a bowl of different food coloring for another 10-20 seconds.
5. Remove the second side of the ribbon from the dye and let the excess drain off. Blot any excess on a paper towel.
6. Rest the roll on its side on a paper towel while all the excess drains off for a few minutes.
7. Roll the ribbon out flat after the excess has drained off. If you hang to dry, the colors may run, so lay flat on paper towels to dry. Be careful, as some dye may still drip off while drying.
8. Use your ribbon once completely dry. (In my opinion, the colors only get better as the fabric dries!)
I love how this ribbon looks tied around a box. Not only does the dip dye look great, but the bulkiness and texture of the fabric make the gift look so special.
